The Fear of Irrelevance

August 29th, 2025 | By Jorge Rodriguez

Beyond immediate economic returns, the United States views leadership in artificial intelligence as a matter of national security, almost of survival. Washington has imposed strict export controls on advanced chips bound for China and committed billions of dollars to accelerate domestic production and secure technological autonomy. Yet Beijing responds at equal speed, pouring massive state-backed investments into giants like Baidu, Alibaba, and Huawei, steadily narrowing the gap with Western models. The contest is no longer merely commercial: it has become a strategic struggle for global power.

Within this landscape, an existential discourse has taken hold: lacking a coherent AI strategy in 2025, according to analysts and executives, is tantamount to condemning oneself to irrelevance by 2030. The corporate equation appears binary—either lead in AI or vanish. The possibility that China may seize the technological advantage fuels a climate of urgency that extends beyond boardrooms, embedding itself into international politics and establishing AI as a central axis of global competition, where innovation itself is the battlefield. / Adapted from an article in Tech Life News, Issue 721, August 23, 2025.

El temor a la irrelevancia

August 29th, 2025 | Por R10
