AI Growth Uncertain

September 3rd, 2025 | By Jorge Rodriguez

The leading U.S. tech companies —those in the Nasdaq 100 index, home to Apple, Microsoft and NVIDIA— saw their shares fall after results from two major chipmakers raised doubts about the true momentum of artificial intelligence. Marvell dropped 16% after reporting weaker-than-expected data-center revenue, prompting Bank of America to cut its rating. Nvidia, the world’s most valuable chip company, slid 3.3% after warning of uncertainty in China sales due to U.S. export restrictions. The decline pulled down the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index, which tracks the industry’s largest firms.

The picture suggests that while artificial intelligence moves billions and fuels huge expectations, actual revenues remain modest. According to Morgan Stanley, cloud giants such as Amazon, Microsoft and Google generated only $45 billion last year in direct AI income. Marvell, after surging in 2023, has lost more than 40% of its value this year and even canceled an investor event. Meanwhile, Alibaba said it is developing its own chip with state backing in a bid to challenge Nvidia. All this has stirred doubts over whether AI’s enthronement in daily life will be as decisive as once imagined.

La euforia de la IA se enfría

Septiembre 3, 2025 | Por R10
