Delving Too Deep

August 23rd, 2025 | By Jorge Rodriguez

Too late, perhaps, but undeniable: artificial intelligence has taken root in written discourse, and there is no turning back. From the musty corners of academic treatises to the digital gossip of adolescents, it has inserted itself everywhere. Each passing week brings reports that, rather than surprise us, should make us uneasy about the dizzying speed at which these tools are redefining writing, communication, and technological ethics. Its cultural footprint spreads wider than anyone could have anticipated.

Consider the growing body of scientific articles now ghostwritten by chatbots. They are betrayed by a curious tell: the obsessive deployment of the verb delve. In theory, it connotes depth; in practice, it appears in clumsy, prefabricated openings—“This article delves into…”, “The study delves deeper into…”. Traditional academic style rarely indulged in such tropes. Their sudden omnipresence has become the neon sign of AI authorship. In my own field—symbolic production, and especially visual-arts criticism—another word has risen to equal tyranny: vibrant. Spot it, and you’ll know that the rot has set in.

Delving Too Deep

Agosto 23, 2025 | Por R10

The study delves deeper into…'
