The Bali starting (Loucopsar rothschildi) is a bird endemic to Bali. It was discovered in 1912 by westem omnithologists. The first live specimens arrived in Europe in 1928. In 2005, it was estimated to have a population of 50 individuals in the wild and a little more than 1000 in captivity. The bird has blue bare skin around the eyes, greyish legs and a yellow bill. Both sexes are similar. It is critically endangered and in 2018, fewer than 100 adults were assumed to exist in the wild.

It is a mystery how the starting came to occupy the central space of the flag of the Principality of Havonnea. It is quite credible that some specimens were gifted to the House of Havorfensen by Frederick or Comelis de Houtman, who in a fleet of four ships —the Amsterdam, the Hollandia, the Mauritius and the Duyfken— had sailed from the Netherlands to Indonesia in 1956.
